ONSE Mission

The mission of the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement is to build partnerships and implement strategies that reduce gun-related violence in the District.  ONSE fulfills this mission by coordinating the District’s gun violence prevention and intervention initiatives, using both public health and public safety tools, and by focusing on identifying and engaging with those most likely to be involved in gun violence, providing them with an alternative to crime.

ONSE and the Greater Washington Community Foundation Announce Matching Funds of $280,000 for FY24 Gun Violence Prevention Mini-Grantees

(Washington, DC) – The Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) and the Greater Washington Community Foundation is pleased to announce a matching grant partnership for 27 community and faith-based organizations that previously received FY24 Gun Violence Prevention Mini-Grant awards from the ONSE. The organizations provided summer programming for youth focusing on confidence building, health and wellness, and preparing them for the next stages of life.
