Mission
The Pathways Program aims to reduce violence across the District by equipping individuals at highest risk with the social, emotional, and civic engagement skills needed to build safer, stronger communities.
Structure
The Pathways Program helps young adults ages 18 to 35 who are most at risk of being involved in gun violence. It is a training program that teaches important life and job skills to help participants make positive choices and prepare for success. Through hands-on lessons, participants learn about money management, job readiness, civic engagement, and problem-solving, while also finding ways to give back to their communities.
Participants also receive supportive services such as counseling, transportation assistance, housing and job referrals, clothing and food support, and access to community activities that build teamwork and confidence. Referrals to the program come from partner agencies and community organizations that focus on public safety and neighborhood support.
Become an Employer Partner
Employment is a key part of the Pathways Program, helping participants gain work experience and build lasting careers. The ONSE Workforce Development Team partners with public and private organizations to provide subsidized and transitional jobs that strengthen work skills and create pathways to long-term employment.
Businesses are encouraged to partner with ONSE as Work Experience sites or employment partners, offering real-world opportunities for participants. Eligible employers may also qualify for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit.
Employers can sign up to learn more about hosting a Pathways participant here.
